It is hard for us at this organization to go even an hour without hearing yet another case of animal neglect, cruelty, or abandonment. The way people have come to view animals as property that they can “do as they wish with” is a growing problem that we not only can recognize, but also respond to. Here is where we stand as a nation:

There were 39 court cases of animal cruelty in Georgia in 2010. This does not include reported/overlooked/unknown cases. Our state topped the list along with CA, FL, NY, PA, TX and VA.
70% of all animal abusers have committed at least 1 other crime and 40% have committed violent crimes against humans. -Boston’s Northeastern University and the MSPCA, 1997.
56 percent of dogs and 71 percent of cats that enter animal shelters are euthanized.
Four million cats and dogs (about one every eight seconds) are put down unnecessarily in the U.S. each year.
One female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 dogs in 6 years time. One female cat and her offspring can produce 20,736 in 4 years time. Feral female cats can potentially have 5 litters of kittens in a year.
19% percent of owned dogs and 22% percent of owned cats were adopted from an animal shelter.
